Photo Finish: A Comedy of Love vs. Viagra – Now on Youtube

Photo Finish:  A Short Comedic Film by Beth Rosen & Mort Scharfman

A very married middle-aged frump of a woman is caught on camera in mid-kiss with her new boy toy, the photo turning out ironically to be her ticket to a rehabilitated marriage.

Such is the logline of Photo Finish, the joint effort of Producer/Co-writer Beth Rosen and Director/Co-writer Mort Scharfman, which presents Peggy McGuinness, Danny Boushebel, Bobby Ballack, Michele Meises and Beth Rosen, in a comedic if hard look at the age old middle-age couple crises of Libidoitis, the universal disorder which no amount of Viagra will cure, so much as plain old love and attention.

Photo Finish is the team’s first motion picture project. It made it’s debut at The Sunscreen Film Festival and was subsequently screened at The Big Apple Film Festival and The Garden State Film Festival. The twenty-three-minute short comedy film was one of 5 films nominated for Best of the Festival Audience Award at the Hoboken International Film Festival in 2012 and can now be found on Youtube and here on The Back Door to Hollywood Website.

Relationship Ruby: The Rules of Engagement

Learn How to Play the Game

There are many different kinds of relationships –  family, romantic interests, friendships, colleagues, business associates and acquaintances. Each one has it’s own rewards and benefits.

Relationships involve teamwork and like any game, it’s important to know the rules of engagement, especially if you want to build relationships in the film and television industry. The trick is to learn how to play without getting overly defensive or offensive so you can both come out as winners. I call it relationship rugby. The truth is that no matter how good a relationship is, sometimes you head into turbulent waters that rock the boat. So how do you handle those dicey moments without cutting the ties to an otherwise perfectly good relationship?

The first thing to realize is that any relationship can survive the rough bumps if you smooth things over. If you want a relationship to work, you need to work at it and relate to the other person. That means getting out of your head and into your heart.

10 Tips to Keep a Relationship on Track

Here are 10 tips to keep your relationship on track when it looks like you’re heading for a train wreck.

1. If a relationship needs repair, re-pair it. Since you are playing the enlightenment game, you may have be the one to take the initiative and take control of the steering wheel.

2. Don’t get stuck on yuck. Shake off the bad stuff and quickly move onto the good stuff.

3. Learn to listen without interrupting or judging. Giving someone the forum or opportunity to speak about what is not working goes a long way.

4. If a problem arises, don’t sweep it into the rug. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean that it’s not there. You’ll eventually need to clean up the mess anyway. The longer you wait, the bigger the problem gets. So do it now. If something is not working, acknowledge it, take responsibility for what you can fix and then fix it.

5. Work together to find solutions. Teamwork often produces the best work and a joint effort is effortless.

6. Keep your promises. A broken promise leads to a broken heart.

7. Avoid speaking badly about someone when you disagree with them. When you bad mouth someone, it leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.

8. Avoid blaming the other person. Nobody ever wins the blame game.  Sometimes taking the higher ground means putting yourself on equal footing.

9. Step back from a bad situation so you can clear your mind. A clear mind can clear up any misunderstanding.

10. Transform negative feelings and avoid emotional scars by focusing attention on the other person’s strengths, talents and positive contributions to the relationship. When you find something good about the other person and let them know about it, you both shift into a higher vibration.

The Magic of Green Screening

The Magic of Green Screening

Green Screens are often used in movie production to create various special effects.  I highly recommend purchasing one because it comes in handy during production. Once you learn how to use them, you will begin to expand your mind and take your scriptwriting to the next level because you will see how cheaply the most complicated special effects shots in movies can be created.

You can place your characters almost anywhere in the world without leaving your current set when you have a green screen. It is a very cost effective way to shoot foreign scenes, especially if you can get high definition stock footage to place in the background.  You can also create cool science fiction and fantasy shots using green screens. It’s really not as expensive as you think it might be.  Music videos are also notorious for using green screens and you can get really creative on one simple set if you know how to add different backdrops postproduction.

You can purchase a fairly cheap green screen on Amazon.com.  I’ve included the link below so you can get started having fun with green screens.

The Official Movie Trailer for An Affirmative Act

Full Synopsis of Film

“A slice of life of a young, professional married couple with their darling baby turns a sharp, dark corner when the pair are arrested and charged with several counts of fraud. The reason: Terry and Samantha Succi aren’t the man and woman that they purported to be. In truth, they are two women. One, a long haired, pretty school teacher; the other, a boyish-looking architect, who tricked the world surrounding her into thinking she was a man.

Under false pretenses of being a heterosexual couple, they married. Under false pretenses of being a heterosexual couple, they adopted their child. They obtained their benefits and paid their taxes through the same fraudulent pretext of being husband and wife…And they did so because of state law that discriminates against homosexual partners; they were prohibited from receiving the same rights and benefits as their straight counterparts.

The Governor, in an effort to protect his politically necessary anti-gay marriage bill, secretly arranges for a quick slap-on-the wrist plea offer that will ensure both a guilty plea and a fast end to the case. Terry and Samantha, though, decide to fight the fight and enlist the unlikely representation of self-absorbed, but respected powerhouse, heterosexual attorney John DeMine. What ensues is a massive media covered courtroom battle, with equally divided views…and equally plotted acts of legal – and illegal – warfare.

The women have indeed broken the law. The law indeed discriminates against them. With morals, egos and political control at stake, threats turn into physical attacks. A rogue left-wing group assaults the woman prosecuting the case, followed by a violent invasion into Samantha’s and Terry’s home by a fringe right-wing outfit . With the case closed to the public, the courtroom becomes a stage of safety – and justice. The arcing of John DeMine’s character, the will of the beaten prosecutor and the strength of the charged couple, will influence a jury, perhaps of peers, perhaps not. One affirmative act, deciding not only the fate of the women’s freedom, but also the governor’s bill and one of the most controversial issues facing the United States, will be had in this courtroom. One affirmative act – of justice, or maybe not.” Courtesy of Kenneth Del Vecchio.
